Fishermen from Cork will meet with the Russian Ambassador this morning to outline their concerns about a live-fire military exercise off the southern coast.

It's due to take place next month in Ireland's Exclusive Economic Zone, and fishermen have said they plan to protest at sea against it.

The government has also said the drills are "not welcome" however the actions aren't against any international laws.

Patrick Murphy of the Irish South and West Fish Producer's Organisation says they've been invited to Dublin by the Ambassador to air their concerns.

"When the talking stops the feuding normally starts, and what we're doing is going talking.

"We are delighted that we have the opportunity to meet with the ambassador to give him our concerns.

"What we're hoping we get out of it is that the representative of Russia will take his concerns back to his superiors, and hope that they will do their utmost to avoid interference, or jeopardising or threatening all fishing vessels."
