Cork County Council Spent Over €200,000 On Works On The MV Alta Cargo Ship

The Irish Examiner reports the money was spent removing potentially hazardous or polluting cargo from the ship.

The 44 year old vessel washed up on rocks near Ballycotton in February after being abandoned by her crew while en route from Greece to Haiti in October 2018.

The Council saying they have made contact with a potential owner, however they have not accepted responsibility.

It's estimated the ship could cost up to €10 million to salvage.
