The business organisation made the comment after City Properties Limited submitted a new planning application for an office and retail development at Queens Old Castle.

Plans for the iconic building on Grand Parade includes spaces for 900 people, 66 bike parking spaces and a roof terrace.

If permission is granted at the end of next month, the development will be among several new office spaces coming on stream in the city.

Speaking to RedFM News, Thomas Mc Hugh from Cork Chamber says demand in Cork is stronger than other regions in Ireland:

"It's really really positive for Cork that the demand for offices remains very, very strong and I think  globally speaking or comparatively speaking in the pandemic- that's not something to be taken for granted in any way shape or form. And I suppose when you  look at how the city is going to evolve over the years ahead and how it has even evolved over the last year, really we do need like a multifunctional city that has the highest quality of retail, the highest quality of jobs."
