The new runway will be officially opened at a ceremony in Cork Airport today.
The occasion comes ahead of the first passenger flight on Monday morning.
The rebuilding of the 2.1 kilometre main runway as part of a 40 million euro investment in the airport. some parts of the old runway were more than 30 years old and at the end of their service life.
The airport's had two options, carry out the project at night at great expense and keep the airport open or close the entire airport and get the runway replaced in the quickest time possible.
Management chose the latter and today's event on the runway marks the end of an intensive 10 weeks of construction, one of the quickest large scale projects in recent Irish history.
The first flight will take off from the airport Monday morning. at 7:45am.
