Cork is one of the worst affected areas in the country when there’s severe weather.

Work is set to begin on a new tidal defence scheme to help reduce the impact of floods on the city.

The council is going ahead with the multi-million project, which includes developing low walls, pedestrianising plazas and pumping stations.

But these local business owners have mixed views:

"Badly needed because you never know when it's going to happen and it's not clean water we're clearing up."

"Well, I think it's very foolish scheme on the long term in the short term I think it's would bring a lot of money to the construction industry and engineering industry and I think really that's all that's the positive about it. Everything else about it is negative."
