Central Statistics Office data shows that there were more than 17,000 vacant dwellings across Cork during the last census.
Potential homes which were not normally occupied at the time of the census, in April 2022, are classes as vacant.
There were 5,061 such properties in the city, and 11,994 in the county.
There were also 7,454 unoccupied holiday homes across the city and county.
