The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is calling for an emergency meeting next week over a capacity crisis at Cork University Hospital.
The INMO has written to the HSE, calling for an urgent curtailment of services.
The Union's representative for CUH, Liam Conway, says members feel abandoned - and are wondering how they are going to get through this winter.
"The members are very concerned and very worried about the coming days, and at the moment as we speak in terms of the staffing levels in these units, and the real need to curtail services as an immediate solution and try support the current challenges, that all of the hospitals in Cork and across the country are facing."
