Residents with brown water on the north side of the city say they can't even trust water when it runs clear.

Homeowners in Ballyvolane, Dublin Hill, Onslow Gardens and surrounding areas say they've been sending complaints to Uisce Éireann about water discolouration for three years.

John Mulcahy from Ballyvolane says residents have had to replace washing machines and showers because of the water that runs through their homes.

Speaking to RedFM News, John says he spends 30 euro per week on bottled water because he can't trust the tap

"When it is clear, there is a very strong chemical smell that stays in the water. We have twin babies as well so we actually have to buy bottled water to boil it to make baby bottles because we can't trust trust the tap water.  And even boiling the tap water in the kettle, it destroys the kettle where there is a lot of corrosion at the bottom of the kettle from whatever the sediment is that is in the water"
