A GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for a Cork family whose home was gutted by a fire has raised almost 8 thousand euro in just over 24 hours.
The fire at Westbury Estate in Wilton occurred on Saturday night and is believed to have started from coal falling out of the fire.
Cork City fire brigade responded quickly to the incident, preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining houses.
Lisa Power lived in the house with her two sons and two daughters, with Lisa's son Aaron and his girlfriend in the house at the time.
While they were able to get out safely, they were unable to save the family dogs Kobe and Kyra, and their new-born puppies.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville show this morning, Lisa said that while she is devastated over her dogs, she's grateful nobody was hurt in the fire.
" I was hysterical because the dogs were my babies. You know, like I had, I had the puppies in my room because because my dog would always be so used to being close to me. So I had moved the puppies in my room because she kept trying to move them and bring them upstairs. So I just said work with her. You know, because they were so young, they were only three weeks old puppies were and I had to crate in my room with the with the pups in it and I do have so much to be thankful for because I do have my kids you know, I know a lot of people haven't been that lucky, you know."
