Averil Sheehan who runs Care-A-Lot Childcare in Innishannon shut her doors on Tuesday to protest outside the Dáil and won’t reopen until tomorrow.

The Federation of Childhood Providers say preschool owners can’t afford to keep their businesses open and are calling on the Government to increase funding in their sector.

Preschool owners and staff are telling the Government that 69 euro per child per week just isn’t enough to pay for staff, bills and supplies.

10 buses of business owners and staff from Cork protested outside the Dáil on Wednesday and today is their third day of demonstration.

Speaking to RedFM News, Averil Sheehan  says running her business for the past month has been unbearable

"I can honestly say it was about four weeks ago I'd been advertising for a staff member to come in to be a named support for a little boy that I was accepting into my service who was on the spectrum, and I was advertising for six months and I couldn't get a staff member, so I had to take Emma my manager, out of the office to support that little boy. And I just went, I can't do it anymore. Actually I'll get very emotional about it all now"
