The rally will see people coming together to express their solidarity with the whole Ukrainian nation and to support the Ukrainian community in Ireland and aims to help support migrants from Poland and Eastern Europe.

It comes as officials in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv say 35 people are now known to have died following a Russian airstrike on a military base there.

Authorities believe dozens of others are injured after the site, which is used for NATO drills and close to the Polish border, was targeted this morning.

Meanwhile, the southern port city of Mel-it-o-pol apparently has a new mayor - and one that's allegedly been put in place by the Kremlin.

Ukraine's parliament has made the claim after saying Ivan Fedorov, who used to be in the role, was kidnapped by Russia.

In his latest speech, the Ukrainian president has insisted his nation 'will stand the test'.

Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko doesn't think international sanctions go far enough - believing 'every penny that goes into the Russian economy goes to finance the Russian army.

Back in Cork, today's rally, which will be led by representatives of the Ukrainian community and refugees who have already arrived in Cork, will start on the Grand Parade at 4 o'clock and will pass through the city centre

Roman Polstiviy  is from the Ukraine and is living in Cork he says he has been overwhelmed by the support of locals to the war in Ukraine

It is very overwhelming and it is fantastic how Irish people people respond to this war and this crisis. I think it shows that people actually understand what's  happening and care for what's happening. But yeah, people are unbelievable so many people providing us with support in terms of you know,  donations or like Dunnes Stores gave us use of a warehouse and another logistic company gave us a warehouse and they're helping with lorries, to organise the deliveries to Polish border - yes so it's just unbelievable how people are trying to help"
