The motion will be put to the Council next month

Currently, all monies confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Legislation are put in a central fund and distributed to services across Ireland.

However, this new motion would encourage that money be redirected to local addiction services, youth organisations, and community initiatives in Cork.

Councillor Ken O'Flynn is backing the move, saying this structure would reflect what happens in local communities right across Europe.

Speaking to RedFM News, Councillor Ken O'Flynn says he would like to see that money invested directly back into Leeside communities:

'Not only is it just helping those that are affected by it, it's helping rebuild communities rebuild structures and stopping from other people falling into pitfalls like this. And that's what I want to see that money being used for is reinvested back into Cork, reinvested back into our neighborhoods into the areas where there's real genuine problems by starting off new programs, financing old programs, and reviving programs that have been there in the past. And giving people the help that they need, where the help is most needed.'
