The state registered over 13,500 people as homeless in January - another new record.

These figures from the Department of Housing show 9,504 adults on the list - 542 of those adults were accessing emergency accommodation across Cork in January

There were over 4,000 children growing up in Emergency Accommodation in January.

Focus Ireland spokesperson, Conor Culkin, says its a disappointing day

"Well these figures are a serious setback, especially after the welcome news of homelessness reducing just before Christmas. Now, not only are there over 4000 children homeless but more of these children are homeless are increasingly longer periods of time and this is increasing the long term harm later in their lives"
