42 year old Sonya Egan of The Lawn, Lios Cara, Killeens in Cork phoned and texted former Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O'Brien over five and a half thousand times over six months.

The court heard that Sonya Egan had also bombarded local community activist, Laura O'Connell with messages and had posed as a barrister, wearing robes and claiming she had come from family court when they arranged to meet for a coffee.

Jonathan O'Brien first became aware of Sonya Egan in April or May of 2017. She then became a member of Sinn Fein and began sending him suggestive comments that made him uneasy in December 2018.

O'Brien then began to receive messages and texts and emails from fake accounts- one of which claimed to be then-leader of the UK Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn who claimed he was Sonya Egan's father.

Sergeant John Sheehy told the court that Egan had sent photos of Jonathan O'Brien's father to him on a number of occasions and contacted him to say that his terminally ill mother had fallen out of her hospital bed

Egan had previously pled guilty to harassing Jonathan O'Brien and Laura O'Connell.

Defence barrister Anthony Sammon said his client was sorry for her actions and had given an undertaking that she would not contact the injured parties prior to her next court appearance.

Judge Helen Boyle remanded the accused on bail until June 27th and warned her to get her affairs in order prior to her next court appearance.
