UCC Students’ Union says Cork has the lowest rate of public student purpose built accommodation.

18% of student accommodation is owned by Cork universities which costs around €7000 per year compared to private accommodation costing around €12,000

56% of Limerick’s student accommodation is public while its 42% in Dublin.

Speaking to RedFM News, Alex Fuertes Roper from UCC Students' Union says too much student accommodation in Cork is privately owned:

"It’s not good enough, that means 82 percent of student accommodation in Cork is privately owned with an average rent of between €12,000 and €18,000 a year"
