The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau and officers from Cork city conducted a number of searches today and arrested the 40 year old man and 42 year old woman
Both are being held in separate Garda Stations in Cork after they were detained for suspected money laundering offences.
Property and assets including crypto currencies have been seized and a number of computers are being forensically examined.
The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau has been working with the FBI to fight the sale of illegal online services such as ransomware, the production of false documents and the sale of banking and credit card details.
Gardaí say today's arrests are significant in the context of international cybercrime.
