The Latest on Storm Barra: cancellations, closures and emergency numbers

Met Éireann have issued a status Red Wind Warning for Cork for tomorrow.

The warning is in place from 6am until 9pm Tuesday.

Winds are expected to be very damaging and people are being asked to stay inside until the warning expires.

The City and County Councils say they expect fallen trees and spot flooding and are asking people to secure any loose items on their property.

Sand and gel bags are available from the City Council depots on Anglesea Terrace and Tramore Valley Civic Amenity Park up to 8pm tonight.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

  • SCHOOLS: Department of Education is advising that all schools covered by the Red Alert and Orange warning from Met Éireann should not open tomorrow
  • Aer Lingus has cancelled tomorrows early morning services from Cork Airport to Amsterdam and London Heathrow.
  • UCC and MTU are closed tomorrow.
  • All Bus Éireann services including school bus services are cancelled. This includes Expressway services that start or end in Cork.
  • Bank of Ireland branches in Cork will be closed tomorrow.
  • Fota Wildlife Park will be closed tomorrow.
  • Covid-19 vaccine appointments scheduled for tomorrow at City Hall have been postponed. All appointments scheduled for tomorrow will be re-scheduled for the same time slot on Thursday, 9th December.
  • All Covid test centres are closed tomorrow.
  • HSE: Elective inpatient and outpatient appointments and procedures in CUH, Bantry General, Mallow General, the Mercy, the South Infirmary and University Hospital Kerry are cancelled tomorrow with the exception of time critical cases.
  • All Aldi stores in Cork and Kerry.
  • NCT tests in Cork cancelled tomorrow
