The Taoiseach has been apologising to Fianna Fáil over the handling of the presidential election campaign.
Micheál Martin made an emotional address to his parliamentary party last night in a five hour meeting, following Jim Gavin's hasty withdrawal from the Presidential election.
The Taoiseach said he can 'sometimes get things wrong' adding he was 'devastated' by what's happened.
He acknowledged the shock and hurt of the party with some saying his voice was breaking slightly in his opening address.
Michael Martin has now proposed new rules for selecting a presidential candidate in the future.
