The shadow of the Irish housing crisis looks set to loom into 2023 and beyond.

Property prices have increased by 130 per cent in the past decade, according to figures from the CSO.

Despite this, the Taoiseach says planning permission has been approved for 70 thousand new homes heading into next year.

Jude Webber of the Financial Times says a Daft-dot-ie report on Dublin rentals this summer was particularly worrying:

"We all know anecdotally people living in Ireland, we all know how bad it is, but it's just when you see the numbers, and you see just how few properties there are to rent. 495 homes available to rent as of July 1st. It's just staggering in the country of 5 million people, that there's fewer than 500 homes to rent".
