RNLI in Cork are warning people to be careful when near the coast this Bank Holiday weekend.

The Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland say that water temperatures can still be extremely cold this time of year and Cold Water Shock can affect everyone.

Wearing a bright swim cap, a flotation device and a wetsuit to stay warm are things that can help when swimming in the sea.

Speaking to RedFM News, RNLI Water Safety Lead, Kevin Rahill outlines what people can do when they're going near the water:

We'd also ask people to work to carry arrive a means of raising the alarm by phone, a in water pouch or a mobile VHF radio. It's very important to tell somebody where they're going. So if you're not if you're not back by a certain amount of time after you send your back so that that person ashore can contact the emergency services and saying they haven't turned up and so we have got an idea of where people are and what they were doing."
