A search and rescue operation is underway for a person trapped in a car that entered the water at Kennedy Quay in the city at around 8:45pm
Two children in the car managed to escape the car soon after it entered the river. They were taken to Cork University Hospital by ambulance where they are receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Emergency services including Gardaí, the National Ambulance Service and the nearby Fire Service from Anglesea Street were tasked to the scene shortly after receiving reports of a car in the water.
Divers began a search of the water and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R117 is also at the scene.
