Israel Olatunde wrote his name into the Irish record books last night.
The 20 year old broke Paul Hession's fifteen-year old national record in the 100-metres at the European Athletics Championships in Munich with a time of 10.17 seconds.
He finished sixth in the final.
Olatunde achieved the new Irish best in the process of becoming the first Irish sprinter to compete in a European 100 metre final.
The UCD man was just 4 hundreths of a second away from claiming a bronze.
The Dundalk native was absolutely delighted, saying "I have no words to be honest. Just to be here is amazing, to be able to produce a national record at a European Championships, to come sixth and be in contention with some of the greatest guys in Europe, it really means a lot to me and I'm so grateful to be here."
