Parents of pupils attending the special school say therapists promised for the school have not started working with their children yet and they haven't been able to access overnight respite care

Carrigaline Community Special School opened two years ago to address a shortage of special school places for children aged four to 18 and was at it's capacity of 48 pupils by the following September.

In response to a Dail question raised by Sinn Fein's Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire Minister of State Martin Heydon says Minister Anne Rabbitte will continue to work with the Department and the HSE to drive progress on the matters raised

"An update from HSE advises that there is now an on site presence for speech and language and occupational therapists in the school,  not withstanding, Deputy the concerns that you've raised here about the extent to that, but I am told the work is actively ongoing to reinstate similar psychological supports to the school with  has been advertised for relevant therapy assistant posts this week. The government is committed to the provision of additional respite as a key priority"
