Cork Harbour at Blackrock Castle and White Bay beach are among some of the worst littered harbours and beaches in the country.

That's according to the IBAL litter survey published today.

They were both rated as "heavily littered", while Kinsale was rated as "littered"

The survey covered 30 beaches and harbours across Ireland.

Conor Horgan spokesperson from Irish Business Against Litter says the slippage in standards is concerning.

"The results are disappointing. Only a quarter of our harbours and beaches are clean.

"We've seen a significant reduction in the number of clean beaches, among them the very popular beaches such as Lahinch, Portmarnock, Strand Hill.

"All of these were clean last time out, now they've slipped to moderately littered, so they're not heavily littered but they're not as clean as they should be."
