Several units of the county fire service have responded to a fire at the Stryker plant in Carrigtwohill this morning.

The alarm was raised at the Tullagreen manufacturing plant at 9.30am this morning and units from Midleton and Cobh responded and remain at the scene.

There is no update on any injuries or the extent or cause of this latest fire.

This latest incident comes less than a week after an explosion on the roof of Stryker's Anngrove Building left a 41 year old man fighting for his life at Cork University Hospital.

That incident happened around lunchtime last Tuesday and the man suffered severe burns after a titanium fire broke out on the roof of the building

An investigation has been mounted by the Health and Safety Authority into that explosion and SIPTU have written to Stryker requesting an urgent meeting following the incident saying their member have previously raised health and safety concerns.

Speaking to RedFM News last week Neil McGowan from SIPTU says they have been seeking to engage with them for nearly four years now.

"We've been seeking engagement with Stryker management in relation to the Carrigtwohill site for a considerable period of time on health and safety and other issues, but specifically on health and safety issues since 2019.

"To date the company have failed to engage with us, they've failed to agree to a meeting, and we hope that following the letter that has been sent to the company that they will sit down and work with us collaboratively."
