A Fine Gael Senator is demanding clarity from the Health Minister regarding his comments on international surrogacy.
Earlier this week Minister Donnelly said that IVF funding has been delayed due to difficulties relating to another reproductive issue.
The minister went on to suggest that legislation regarding international surrogacy had stalled the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill.
Senator Mary Seery-Kearney says it's disappointing that two vital services have been pitted against each other:
"We desperately need both. We need to IVF funding for couples that are struggling to grow their families and need the support of the states to enter into IVF treatments. But it's highly divisive of the Minister to attempt to pit one sector of the community in need of fertility treatments and those who need Assisted Human Reproduction in growing their family via surrogacy".
