A group representing the families of children with disabilities are cautiously welcoming the news that supports will be re-introduced in special schools from September.
In a statement to RedFM News the Department of Health confirmed efforts to re-instate therapists are ongoing and says details are expected to be announced shortly.
Campaign group Families Unite for Services and Support say they're concerned some of the therapists will come from what they claim is the all-ready understaffed Children's Disability Network Teams.
The group also say that recruitment efforts will not have an impact unless the ongoing retention crisis in the public children's disability service is addressed.
Julie Anne Cunneen's son Liam attends Carrigaline Community Special School...
She told RedFM News that staff are doing everything they can for the children and outlines how the lack of therapists is impacting her son:
"No speech or language, so I mean for me, Liam is a tough child, so speech or language will be vital for him to continue for him to be learning how to speak properly. And he has arthritis, so it's essential for him to have physio, his joints get very sore, and the same with OT."
