The Education Minister has admitted that it won't be easy to facilitate Ukrainian child refugees in our schools, but she says the challenges will be met.

There could be up to 30,000 children seeking school places in the weeks ahead.

Minister Norma Foley says areas where there is capacity in the school system may be targetted for welcoming families and children from Ukraine first, while the Government will do what is necessary if more classroom accommodation is also needed.

Minister Foley says she has every confidence in the Education sector.

"I'm going to be very honest and say it's not going to be easy. It will certainly bring challenges.

"But I do think that every one of us in society is very conscious that not one of us would like to walk in the footsteps of a mother who is trying to find safe passage for her children, a safe haven for her children, I think it behoves us all to do what we need to do, and I have every confidence that the education sector will do that."
