A People Before Profit TD says he's not surprised that the army has concerns over their role at Dublin airport.

The government approved a request by the DAA to train members of the Defence Forces to assist with security duties.

Several army representatives have expressed concerns that personnel will be asked to do more for less.

Deputy Paul Murphy says the airport are trying to cut corners, instead of addressing the real issue.

"People who signed up to join the army signed up for one job. They didn't sign up to be security officers in Dublin airport. And that's not to criticise on either of the jobs. It's just they are different jobs.

"The DAA are trying to deal with the crisis, which results from trying to recruit a low paid workforce by simply using other low paid workers in this case, those who work for the defence forces."
