The event was forced to go virtual last year with over 4,000 from 70 different countries taking part.
Next years route will showcase many of the city's attractions including Blackrock Castle, the Lee estuary, the old Passage railway line and the Jack Lynch Tunnel.
Several new sustainability measures have been introduced including a new Trees for Tees initiative where runners can choose to plant a tree instead of taking a t-shirt at the end of the marathon.
