Almost 4 million euro of cocaine has been seized at Ringaskiddy Port.
The drugs were confiscated as part of a joint operation between the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service.
The seizure of 55kgs of suspected cocaine was made as a result of a joint intelligence-led operation - conducted by Revenue's Customs Service and the GNDOCB.
The illegal drugs were hidden in the refrigeration unit of a shipping container, which was searched on its arrival from Ecuador into Ringaskiddy Port.
Revenue's Maritime Unit, its mobile x-ray scanner, and Detecto-Dog Merlin were used to find the cocaine.
The operation was part of ongoing joint investigations targeting transnational organised crime and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
Yesterday's seizure has an extimated value of 3.85 million euro.
