Mairead Davis who owns Bright Beginnings on Maryborough Hill will join other early childcare providers in closing their doors next week and protest outside the Dáil for more Government funding.

Since 2010, the Government have paid preschool owners 69 euro per child per week as part of the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme.

Speaking to RedFM News, Mairead Davis of Bright Beginnings says she could charge 125 euro a week privately and not have to live in constant fear that she can’t afford to stay open

"Give us back our business,  let us charge the parents, if they're not willing to.  Give us back our business and let us run it. Of course I would go back to running privately, but we all jumped on the bandwagon 10 years ago when the government introduced free preschool, we thought this was going to be great, it wasn't. We were very naive, we signed up. We were all very naive into thinking this was going to be the answer to all our prayers that the government would finally fund us. It's got worse they've taken our business off us"
