27% Of Hotels Beds In Cork Accommodating Asylum Seekers And Refugees

27% of hotels beds in Cork are being used to accommodate asylum seekers and refugees.

Nationally, almost one-in-three hotel rooms are now being used by the Department of Integration.

The figures do not include homeless people who are also being housed in hotels.

At the moment, Cork hotels are accommodating 4,783 Ukrainian refugees and 1390 international protection applicants.

Around 85 Ukrainian and 29 International Protection applicants are arriving in Ireland every day.

In some counties, well over half of the hotel stock is being used for the purpose - 82% of hotel beds in In Leitrim have been contracted.

The Department of Integration has said it is facing ‘ongoing and severe’ difficulties finding accommodation.
