Students in West Cork rely on using a car to get to college far more than others due to poor public transport connections.

University College Cork says the housing crisis is forcing many students to commute long distances to get to lectures.

Commuter Plan Manager with UCC Stephen Koch told RedFM News students travelling from other parts of the county are far better connected:

"You can see it clearly where there park and ride along the railway lines to Cobh, Mallow and Midleton etc. you clearly see a very high uptake of public transport which is in contrast to then west which is only bus or coach based, there is no where to transfer over in an organised fashion."
