The 73rd Emmy Awards took place overnight in downtown Los Angeles with an in-person event after last year's remote, virtual ceremony.

Netflix's Royal drama series "The Crown" took home many big awards such as Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor for Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles, Best Lead Actress for Olivia Colman for Queen Elizabeth II, Best Supporting Actor for Tobias Menzies for the Duke of Edinburgh and Best Supporting Actress for Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher. The show also won for its writing and directing.

Olivia Colman gave an emotional acceptance speech when collecting her award for her final season playing the Queen as she broke down in tears over her late father. She said, "What a lovely end to the most extraordinary journey with this lovely family. I loved every second of it and I can't wait to see what happens next.

"I wish my dad was here to see this. I lost my daddy during Covid and he would have loved all of this."

Apple TV's Ted Lasso was the other big winner on the night. The football comedy show's first season was clearly a hit as it won Best Comedy Series, star Jason Sudeikis won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series went to Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

The Queen's Gambit won two awards for Best Limited Series and Best Directing while Kate Winslet won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited of Anthology Series of Movie for her role in the much talked about Mare of Easttown.
