Great news for fans of Luther as lead actor Idris Elba has confirmed that filming has started on a film version of the show for Netflix.

The BBC crime drama began in 2010 and followed the dramatic life and work of detective John Luther, played by Elba, who gains the trust of some unlikely characters to help solve cases.

Elba shared photos on Twitter on Wednesday to give a sneak peek at production of the feature length version of the show.

The photos show a clapperboard for the show with an illustration of the London skyline as well as a shot of his signature costume for the character of a long coat and red tie.

Netflix is producing the movie in association with the BBC and is written by series creator Neil Cross and directed by Emmy Award nominee Jamie Payne.

The streaming service has promised “an epic continuation of the Luther saga reimagined for film” and will see Luther facing new challenges.

The Hollywood Reporter has said that Andy Serkis is rumoured to take on the role of the villain in the movie while Cynthia Ervio will portray a rival detective.
