Arming rank and file gardai would be 'a step too far'.

That's the view of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors, after the Tanaiste Leo Varadkar suggested the move.

He said he would support arming them if the Garda Commissioner asked him, according to the Irish Mail on Sunday.
