Not extending the evictions ban would be cruel and inhumane, according to a TD.
Government will make a decision in the coming weeks on whether to extend the ban beyond the 31st of March.
Property owner groups and auctioneers have argued people have a right to control their own property and who is in it.
But People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett says many people who are evicted will end up homeless:
"In the current climate, to allow those evictions to go ahead is cruel and inhumane. Nobody is saying that an eviction ban is the solution to the crisis, but we have to have alternatives for people. In the South Dublin area, rents are €2,500 a month and they are totally unaffordable for the vast majority people".
