Cork City's men's and women's teams are facing a logistical nightmare after the indefinite closure of Turner's Cross to facilitate pitch repairs.

The Munster Football Association last night released a statement to say that the due to the "extensive" damage caused by the Cork City versus Cobh Ramblers fixture on Friday night that Turner's Cross will be closed indefinitely on the advice of their pitch contractors.

City's women's team were due to play DLR Waves at the Cross on Saturday, followed by back to back games for the men's team against Longford Town and Finn Harps.

It's not yet known for long the stadium will be unavailable.

The statement from the MFA read:

“Following a meeting of the Munster Football Association Executive it has been decided that Turner's Cross will be closed indefinitely.

“Unfortunately we have had to make this decision in conjunction with and on the advice of our pitch contractors following the League of Ireland fixture that took place on Friday night last where extensive areas of the pitch have been severely damaged.

“We wish to ensure all affected parties that while there is a period of extensive works needed we endeavour to have the Turners Cross pitch restored and playable as soon as possible.”
