Cobh Ramblers claimed the Munster Senior Cup for the sixth time in their history last night, and for the first time since 2016.

Shane Keegan's side defeated Cork City by a goal to nil in last night's final at Turner's Cross, James O'Leary's free kick the difference between the sides.

It means that in their centenary year Ramblers have claimed silverware, and Keegan told RedFM Sport that it's fantastic for the club.

"A centenary year means you're going to have a dinner dance at the end of the year to celebrate the centenary, and now you're going to have a piece of silverware at that dinner dance.

"It just adds a little bit to it on the night, and gives us a centre piece for the night, so it's really good timing in terms of picking up the trophy."

Ramblers went into the game on the back of the defeat to Athlone Town at St Colman's Park on Friday night, a result that leaves Ramblers rooted to the bottom of the table. Keegan was delighted with the response of his players.

"Just to be able to bounce back from Friday night, we were so disappointed with our performance on Friday night, it really, really was awful.

"It was fantastic not to have to wait seven days to right those wrongs, the boys were as equally as fuming as I was and we were determined to put things right tonight.

"The most pleasing thing tonight is we performed. Cork were excellent tonight, this is my third time being involved with this Cobh side against them and this is the best they played, for periods of the game anyway they were causing us all sorts of problems.

"We stuck in it, and we delivered a performance. In the dressing room I was saying to them 'just don't do what we did on Friday night, just don't be awful, just deliver a performance and if the performance gets you a result then happy days, if the performance doesn't get you a result I can take it. But Jesus, give me a performance'.

"And they did, and a little bit of luck came with it, and we got a result."
