Plans to relocate asylum seekers into an apartment building in the city have been scrapped.

The Irish Examiner reports residents of the building on South Terrace opposed the plans to turn part of the property into an IPAS centre.

The Department of Justice confirmed the accommodation is no longer under consideration and construction on the site has stopped.
