The felling of mature trees on the northside of Cork city has been paused in the wake of a demonstration by local residents against the plan
Twenty two mature trees on Knockfree and Knockpogue Avenues have been earmarked to be cleared for a cycleway, new pedestrian crossings and the upgrade of three roundabouts
City Council says extensive consultation was undertaken with locals ahead of the plan and care was taken to minimize the number of trees being removed
The Council says an extensive landscape plan involving significant tree planting will be undertaken after the trees are felled for a travel improvement scheme
Local residents say they don't want to lose their green space
