The mother of a teenage boy who attends Carrigaline Community Special School in Cork says its closure for a week is shaming every child that gets dysregulated in a classroom
The school, which supports students with autism and intellectual disabilities, shut its doors on Friday following an incident last Thursday in which staff members were hurt and won't re-open until Monday
Parents previously raised concerns about inconsistency and limited access to vital therapies, saying it led to high anxiety and distress among students.
Speaking to RedFM News Niamh O'Grady says the staff and children at the school need support not closures
"It implicitly shames our children for getting dysregulated by taking such an extreme measure of closing a school for six consecutive days. and all of our children, they're autistic with an intellectual disability, and dysregulation is part of that dual diagnosis. So I find it extraordinary"
