Cork football boss hopeful Championships will be completed
Cork football boss Ronan McCarthy is hopeful the All Ireland Championships will be completed, but admits that the current Covid-19 situation doesn't leave him confident they will.
The Rebels return to action this weekend as they face Louth in Páirc Uí Chaoimh followed by a trip to Longford, before the Munster Championship semi final with Kerry on November 8th.
The rising number of Covid-19 cases nationwide has raised doubts as to whether the Championships will be able to completed, and McCarthy admits that he has doubts that they will.
"I wouldn't say I'm confident at all", said McCarthy on last night's virtual press conference held online.
"You see with the Irish soccer team over the weekend, one positive case, and it's the close contacts are an issue.
"To be fair to our guys from the point of view of training, and our procedures at training, they have structures in relation to wearing a mask, and dressing rooms and so on.
"So what you hope is that where there is a positive case, that your close contacts are at a minimum, and that's all we can do from our end.
"That's only one aspect, where players are congregating. Obviously people have to go to work and to college and everything else, and you're in the lap of the Gods there a small bit in relation to the exposure that players may have.
"Am I confident? I wouldn't say I'm confident, but we hope that by following the procedures that are there and all the different protocols in relation to the prevention of Covid it gives ourselves the best chance of not running into that kind of difficulty."
