Consumers have moved back to the shops this Christmas.

That's according to Retail Excellence Ireland, which says footfall in shopping centres across the country is up on the last 2 years which were hit by the pandemic.

It also reports shops were 20% busier on Black Friday weekend, compared to last year.

Duncan Graham from Retail Excellence Ireland says consumers simply have more choice this year:

"I can sit there on a day like today and we can wrap up while I'm in front of the fire and do our online shopping but equally we can go into the shops and, you know I think people are coming in they're spending not so much as they would spend this time last year."
