218 sex-offenders are being monitored in the community after being released from prison.
The Probation Service says they're among over 1,700 people who are under post-release supervision.
The Department of Justice says judges can insist sex-offenders be supervised when they're released from jail.
They have to tell Gardaí where they live within a week of getting out of prison, and if they move home.
Former governor of Mountjoy Prison, John Lonergan, says the level of monitoring they get varies.
Some sex-offenders will also be electronically tagged in the near future.
It's part of new legislation from Justice Minister Helen McEntee, who expects it to be exacted by the end of the year.
The new laws will also allow for additional restrictions on sex-offenders when they're in the community.
