One in five Irish holidaymakers will have booked their 2024 break by Monday - New Year's Day.

A recent survey by Click&Go Travel also shows more than half will reserve their holiday in January.

Travel agents are noticing a shift from the traditionally popular July and August period to a heightened interest in May and June.

Speaking to RedFM News, Managing Direct of Barter's Travelnet, Tom Randals says the recent poor weather has many people thinking of heading overseas:

"It's been extremely busy; a mixture of last minute holidays - people looking to get away next couple of weeks, but also people planning for 2024. I think with the recent bad weather it's kind of put it into people's minds that they want a plan and book early".
