The Ryanair boss is calling for the role of the Presidency to be abolished, because he says ‘it serves no purpose at all’.
Michael O’Leary says the salary for the position, as well as the upkeep of the Aras and its staff, is a ‘waste’ of money.
He previously backed former candidate Mairead McGuinness for the role.
Asked who he’ll be voting for now, Mr. O'Leary says he’ll ‘see how the campaign goes’.
"I don't know why anyone would want to be president. We've had some very good ones - I think Mary McAleese was an outstanding president.
"I don't think [Michael D.] Higgins has been a particularly good president. I think he's far too outspoken, usually in favour of his failed left wing causes.
"Ultimately I don't care. I think the country would be much better off if we didn't have a Presidency. Let the Taoiseach be the head of state, and let the Minister for Foreign affairs hand out the Ferrero Rochers."
