Landmarks across Cork will light up in green tomorrow to mark the longest night of the year.

The initiative from the Samaritans is to remind people that the charity is there to help.

December is the busiest month for Samaritans 200 volunteers across the country with around 35,000 calls expected by the end of the month.

Speaking to RedFM News, Jon Spencer from Cork Samaritans outlines some of the places that will be lit up in green:

"Cork County Council has said that it will be lighting its buildings across the county. The Clonakilty Distillery will be green, the Quality Hotel, the Celtic Ross Hotel. Samaritans volunteers will be on Patrick Street from 6pm. We would just be there to talk and to see people and also pass on a bit of Christmas cheer".
