GAA referees will send players using substandard or counterfeit hurling and camogie helmets off the pitch - until they have an official helmet.
That's according to the Chairperson of the Gaelic Games Helmet Working Group.
An urgent warning has been issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the GAA to parents and players to stop using counterfeit helmets immediately.
There are reports the substandard, retro-style helmets are causing concussions and other serious face, head, and eye injuries.
Speaking to RedFM News, Jim Bolger says counterfeit helmets cannot be tolerated:
"We have a learning platform and the information is there. We expect the coaches to ensure that anybody playing has a helmet that meets the standard. Referees - if they spot a helmet that's not up to scratch, they will ask the player to leave the ground or to leave the pitch and source a proper helmet. So personal responsibility is on the players - through rule.
